Subject:	update on association for Callahan

HI!!
On Sunday August 12, we had an officer’s meeting at Scott’s home-present were  
all the officers plus Sharyl Bussen. Sharyl (who is on the board and is a year 
round resident) will be one of the cosigners, along with Scott Hanson for the 
association’s bank account at theChippewa bank in town.
 We discussed the milfoil and what has to do be done.
We now have over 57 members with more signing up.

 We are in the process of talking about committees and how to handle the 
yearly dues. Our next officers meeting is August 30, again at Scott Hanson 
home at 6:30.

 On Aug. 14th,  Scott Hanson and Denny Toll met with Kristy Maki(of the land 
and water conservation
department) at the county building.  The rapid response letter has to be 
approved by Feb. 1 and when approved, would last 2 years. According to Kristy, 
the first application of the treatment would be in the spring of ‘08. 
Depending on the water temperature, the treatment would take place. Once 
infestation has been established, we then  need a  water and plant survey 
done,  and a  management  plan. The board will finish the application for the 
rapid response form and with Kristy’s help, send it off to the DNR. Some other 
concerns we looked at were shore line erosion, keeping Callahan Lake’s wild 
look, maps to hand out to show where milfoil is prevalent, and the 
responsibility of cleaning boats coming both in and out of the water.
Kristi will be back on the lake in Sept. to finish mapping the milfoil, so 
that we have a complete GPS of both Callahan and Mud Lakes. Hope this helps in 
keeping you informed. Kristi is amazed at the quick response we all have had 
about this problem. She commends all of you for your diligence and care of 
your lake. Wednesday the 15th of Aug., the bank account will be opened and all 
checks and money from dues will be deposited.
